NOTICE: THE GRANDPARENTING ROUTE OF ENTRY IS NOW CLOSED
Subsection 11(1) of The Social Work Profession Act, otherwise known as the “Grandparenting” provision, provided an opportunity for practitioners without a social work degree who had been functioning in the role of a social worker for at least 4400 hours in the previous 5 years to be considered for registration as a Social Worker with the Manitoba College of Social Workers. The “Grandparenting” route of entry was time limited and expired on April 3, 2018. All Grandparenting applications and required supporting documentation must have been received by the College on or before April 3, 2018. Applications under this section are no longer accepted.
Important reminder: Social Workers registered under the Grandparenting provision must continue to adhere to approved practice limitations and demonstrate that they are currently functioning in the role of a social worker in order to be eligible for renewal of registration [SWPA 11(2)]. If registration is cancelled or allowed to lapse, a practitioner will not be able to reapply as a Grandparented applicant after April 3, 2018.
