News 2025 Education Event Highlights

MCSW held the 2025 Education Event on October 9 at the Victoria Inn Winnipeg. For the first time, the event was hybrid and participants joined in person and online.

Keynote: Strong Hearts, Strong Families
Michael Redhead Champagne weaved his personal experiences into stories of confronting current challenges in child welfare and social justice. Attendees were asked to reflect on their own practice and the characteristics that make strong hearts and strong families. Themes of culture, ceremony, community, advocacy and language were included.
Eligible for 1.5 Content-Specific Hours in SW with Indigenous Peoples

Panel: Using EDI + Truth & Reconciliation as Community Builders
Sherry Gott, MSW, RSW   Aaron Klein, MSW, RSW;
Edgar Moses, BSW, RSW   Jen Meixner, MA, BSW, RSW

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion—combined with Truth and Reconciliation—can transform communities. Participants learned from lived experiences, explored inclusive practices, and saw how social workers can break barriers, build trust, and lead systemic change. 
Eligible for 1 Content-Specific Hour in SW with Indigenous Peoples or EDI

Option 1: Speak Up, Level Up: Navigating EDI Tough Conversations
Presenter: Denise Young, MAct
Participants mastered the art of clear, empathetic, and confident communication. Through real scenarios and practice, participants built conflict resolution skills, strengthened leadership, and improved outcomes for clients and teams.
Eligible for 2.75 Content-Specific Hours in EDI

Option 2: Ethical and Professional Considerations for Practice
Presenter: Christina Van Sickle, MSW, RSW
Participants explored issues relevant to scope of practice, boundaries, electronic service delivery, private practice, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
