Executive Director/Registrar
Barbara (Barb) Temmerman, BA, HBSW, MSW, RSW is Executive Director & Registrar of the Manitoba College of Social Workers. Barb was employed in the field of child welfare for 17 years prior to moving into social work regulation in 2014. Barb assumed the role of ED/Registrar in 2016 and serves on several national and international committees including the Chair of the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators (CCSWR),the CASW/CCSWR National Clinical Best Practices Committee, the CCSWR Anti-Racist Regulatory Practice Committee, the Intersectoral Committee of CASW, CCSWR and the Canadian Association for Social Work Education and the Association of Social Work Boards Regulation and Standards Committee.

Jacqueline Shortridge, MSW, RSW
Director of Professional Practice
Jacqueline Shortridge is the Director of Professional Practice with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW). She has been a registered social worker in Manitoba since 2002. Since completing her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary in 1999, Jacqueline has practiced in both Alberta and Manitoba. In 2016 she completed her Master of Social Work with a specialization in leadership in the human services from the University of Calgary. Jacqueline spent over twenty years working in the health care field. She has held roles as a front-line social worker, profession lead for social work and as a clinical manager of an inpatient mental health unit. Jacqueline has experience in both short and long-term interventions, crisis work, advocacy, policy and guideline development in addition to liaising with many programs and referral sources (such as public health, education systems, employment and income assistance, and justice). In addition, she has practiced in social work education as Field Coordinator and Sessional Instructor in the Distance Delivery Site of the BSW Program in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. Jacqueline has been involved in various capacities with MIRSW and MCSW since 2003.

Vicki Verge, MSW, RSW
Director of Regulatory Practice
Vicki’s career in social work has been defined by a commitment to leadership and the betterment of those she serves. She began her distinguished career with Winnipeg Child and Family Services after earning an Honors Bachelor of Social Work degree from Lakehead University. Her pursuit of excellence continued with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba, where she authored a thesis exploring the pivotal role of the client-worker relationship in child welfare.
Demonstrating exceptional vision and adaptability, Vicki transitioned from Program Director in child welfare to healthcare, where she assumed the role of Community Team Manager with the Health Authority. In this capacity, she led diverse, interdisciplinary teams, bringing together physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, community developers, and home care specialists to deliver holistic, client-centered care. Her leadership reached new heights in 2012 when she was appointed Regional Director of Social Work. In this role, Vicki expertly oversaw social work services across the health region, including acute care, long-term care, and community programming, all while managing teams of medical social workers and spiritual health professionals in an integrated health and social services campus.
Vicki’s leadership extends beyond the healthcare system, with significant contributions to the profession at a provincial and national level. As President of the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW) Board of Directors, she guided the organization through its early development, demonstrating both strategic foresight and commitment to the integrity of the profession. She volunteered her time on the Continuing Competence Committee and the MIRSW’s Children’s Issues Interest group.
In 2021, Vicki embraced a new challenge as an Instructor and Field Education Liaison at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Social Work, where she empowers the next generation of social workers to bridge theory and practice with confidence and skill. In addition to her role at the University, Vicki serves as the Director of Regulatory Practice at the Manitoba College of Social Workers, further cementing her role as a trusted voice in the regulation and promotion of the profession. Her professional influence extends across Canada, where she has partnered with the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) and MCSW to deliver impactful national webinars. Vicki is also a Member at Large on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Association of Social Work Education (CASWE). Her leadership is further reflected in her volunteer work with the University of Manitoba’s Alumni Council and Distinguished Alumni Awards Committee, where she continues to make lasting contributions to her alma mater.
Vicki’s career is a testament to her exceptional leadership, dedication to the profession, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those she serves.
